Family Involvement Policy

SEVEN OAKS  ELEMENTARY GLOBAL MAGNET FAMILY INVOLVEMENT POLICY

2025-2026

SEVEN OAKS ELEMENTARY GLOBAL MAGNET (SOEGM) encourages, supports, and values the participation and involvement of parents/guardians and families in the educational experiences of their children.  SOEGM recognizes each parent/guardian as their child’s first teacher and acknowledges the powerful influence of family on their child’s life.  SOEGM, therefore, is committed to developing a family-friendly schools and programs to welcome and serve families in a positive and supportive environment.

Families are involved in the development of the SOEGM plan and the process of school review and improvement by being part of a planning team that develops an overall Family Involvement Policy.  This policy has been adapted from the district policy.  In addition, all families are surveyed.  This plan is distributed to all SOEGM parents and to the community at large.  An annual evaluation of the effectiveness of parent involvement will be conducted.

The schools and parents will build the capacity for strong parental involvement by entering into School-Family-Student Compacts.  Compacts are signed by the Principal, Teacher, Parent/Guardian, and Student.  Efforts to increase family involvement will also include annual events to accommodate varied family schedules.  In addition, information on Title I legislation, instructional programs and the desired outcomes for students of Title I Targeted Assistance schools will be shared with  families of students served at SOEGM.  Families will impact policy-making via opportunities to serve on School Improvement Councils, completion of family surveys, preview of Title I plans available on the school website and/or serving as mentors or through other volunteer efforts.  Events at SOEGM will include, but will not be limited to, activities during the year such as Technology, Literacy, Math/Science, Fine Arts, Testing, Cultural Celebration, Academic Information, and other student performance/academic presentations.

Regarding funding, SOEGM will reserve not less than one percent (1%) of the total Title I allocation to carry out family involvement to include family literacy and parenting skills.  In addition, each school may, at their discretion and based on their needs, reserve part of their Title I allocation for funding Family engagement activities.
